*You will need to use a brand of Apple Cider Vinegar that contains “The Mother.” The Mother is a mixture of the beneficial bacteria, proteins, and enzymes produced during fermentation, it is also what gives some brands an unclear appearance.
Five Practical Uses For Apple Cider Vinegar
1. Fruit and Vegetable Wash
Buying fresh fruit and vegetables is always a delight. Can I get a whoop whoop for Farmers Markets ladies?! ☺ But what is not a delight is washing all those goodies you bring home. Apple Cider Vinegar is a natural antibacterial, which makes it perfect for washing items we plan to consume. Using ACV as a soak for fruits and veggies like citrus, cucumbers, tomatoes, squash, apples, etc. will lessen the time you spend scrubbing your fresh food!
Directions
- Fill a bowl with 3 parts water and 1 part ACV
- Soak fruit for 10 minutes.
- Rub gently
- Rinse thoroughly
- Enjoy
2. Cooking
- Apple Cider Vinegar is great for spicing up a meat marinade. It brings extra flavor to whatever meat you are cooking!
- It can be used for adding flavor and zest to a pot of chili, Southern-Style collard greens and cabbage or any bland casserole recipe.
- ACV is often used as a meat tenderizer for the cheap tough cuts of beef and pork.
***Just be careful not to use too much or leave it to soak for too long. The high acidity of ACV can damage the meat’s texture, turning it into a mushy mess.

- ACV can even stand alone as a dipping condiment, especially for crunchy fried fish!

3. Cleaning
As you read before Apple Cider Vinegar is a natural antibacterial, which makes it perfect for light cleaning. It’s high acidity level also makes it a great alternative for those tougher cleaning jobswhen combined with elbow grease and a little soap!
ACV can be used to:
- Replace traditional laundry detergent.
- Freshen laundry with a mildew smell.
- Sanitize surfaces in the kitchen.
- Clean HE front loading washing machines.
- Mix with Baking Soda to unclog drains.
4. Health
I use Apple Cider Vinegar when I’m feeling under the weather.
It helps me in several ways, so I always double up on it during any sickness or infections I may have.
- It’s great for calming a sore throat.
To use, warm up ¼ cup of water, add a small splash of ACV, and slowly sip the mixture.
- It warms the stomach.
Taking a shot of ACV diluted with water is similar to a shot of whiskey, without the alcohol. It soothes the throat and gives your belly that peaceful, calm feeling.
- There is research that reports ACV may aid in weight loss by suppressing the appetite.
When taken with a glass of water, before a meal, ACV has been reported to give a “full” feeling with less food.
